Symmetry

Well done to the winners of this week’s assignment ‘Symmetry’. This theme is a great way to test student’s response to our lesson on composition. In my opinion, composition in photography is the most important thing to get right. A good use of composition can turn a mediocre subject into an outstanding picture. It’s really easy to get right and the best part is, no technical knowledge is needed!

One technique to use to spice up your image is to use Symmetry. The basic principle of this is to find a scene that you can make symmetrical. A symmetrical scene will give a clinical and neat feeling. It’s almost as if you’re tidying the world up! So, this week’s winners are…….

The people vote goes to Nicola Butler for this lovely composed scene of the Essex estuary. The posts here are made for a symmetrical composition! Good response to the theme, well done!

My choice goes to Brendon Rooney for this perfectly framed picture of a manor house. Sometimes it’s all about the positioning and Brendon has positioned himself perfect here to get this symmetrical shot! Well done, a great use of composition.
