Intro to your Course and Andy Rouse

An introduction to Andy Rouse, his photography and how the course works. Here Andy shares his photography journey from the corporate world to one of the most well known photographers in this genre. He also talks frankly about what wildlife photography means to him.

Equipment

Here you will learn about the equipment needed to achieve good results. You’ll look at cameras, lenses, tripods, camouflage and essential accessories to get more refined professional imagery.

Lesson 3
Camera Settings and Techniques

In this lesson you’ll start by learning the basics of wildlife photography and you’ll understand the physics behind why good imagery is so hard to achieve. You’ll also learn about specific camera settings for wildlife photography, how to use light, composition, the weather and many more pro techniques to send your photography to the next level.

Garden Birds

Why not hone your wildlife skills in your own backyard. In this lesson you’ll start to develop a project-based mentality and get control of your equipment and camera settings. Garden Birds Edit

In this lesson you’ll look at how the pros edit wildlife photography. You’ll look at editing portraits of birds and birds in flight. You will also be provided with the raw files so you can follow along and learn the editing techniques shown.

Fieldcraft and Stalking

We’ve all seen those clean crisp photos of wildlife where the animal looks like it’s right in front of the camera. Camera equipment and settings are just a small part of this achievement. This lesson will give you the rest of the skills needed to consistently achieve high end results.

Fieldcraft and Stalking Edits

Here you learn how to sort and edit wildlife pictures in programs such as Photoshop and others. Again, you are provided with the raw files so you can work along with the lesson, and in the process you’ll learn the secrets the pros use in their post processing.

The Hero Shot

Every aspiring wildlife photographer will have a dream shot they want to achieve, a ‘hero’ shot. Watch Andy as he teaches you how to plan and execute such a picture by putting it into practice himself.

In this lesson, we head back to the studio to edit the photos taken out in the field. As usual you are provided with the raw files so you can follow along with the edit and learn the techniques taught.

Andy’s love for nature started in his teens whilst on country walks with his dad. He left university and embarked in a corporate career for over 10 years but in 1998 he decided to leave all that behind and go professional as a wildlife photographer.

Since then, Andy has won over 30 major awards including the BBC wildlife photographer of the year, the European and American wildlife photographer of the year, and the prestigious Cherry Kearton Medal. His work has been published all over the world and he currently has 20 published books to his name. His photography has been used commercially by companies such as British Airways and Jaguar Motors.

He is also very passionate about the conservation of wildlife and is an ambassador for 21st Century Tiger and a patron of the UK Wild Otter Trust.   • On average, someone with a full-time job will complete the course in 1 to 2 months. But you can study at your own pace in your own time, with access to all lessons and resources.

  • This course is suited for intermediate photographers, Lightroom and Photoshop users. It is not suited for anyone who hasn’t used Photoshop and Lightroom or learnt about the basics of photography. In this case, please take a look at our Photography, Lightroom and Photoshop courses.

  • It depends. If you want to follow along with the edits then the answer is yes. However, if you edit your work in a different program then you can simply use the same editing techniques in whatever program you are used to. The raw files provided will open in any editing program that supports raw editing. If you wish to buy Adobe editing software we recommend buying their ‘Photography Plan (1TB)’ which includes Photoshop CC, Lightroom Classic, and Lightroom CC for a monthly fee.
