Chiaroscuro - Mid Assignment Critique 2026

Hello lovely members, it’s your ‘Chiaroscuro’ MAC! AKA Mid Assignment Critique.

Chiaroscuro simply translates as Light/Dark and in art it is a technique where you use strong light and shadow for a dramatic effect. In this MAC we will clarify what that means visually, show some excellent examples so far, and show you what doesn’t constitute as Chiaroscuro.

 This month, we also have a great prize you could win. We’ve collaborated with Kate Backdrop. The winner of our “Chiaroscuro” assignment will receive:
