Lesson 1
Intro to your Course and Tom Archer

An introduction to Tom Archer, pro landscape photography and how the course works. Here Tom shares his photography journey from Police officer to professional photographer and gives us an insight into what photography means to him and why he creates his stunning photography in this unique way.

Equipment

Here you will learn about the equipment Tom uses to achieve his desired effects and why he uses them. You’ll look at cameras, lenses, filters and also editing software used to get more refined imagery.

Landscape photography techniques, colour and light

Lesson 3
Introduction to camera settings

In this lesson you’ll learn about conventional camera settings used for landscape photography then you’ll learn the Tom Archer way, which is far from the norm! You’ll also look at how to master composition, colour and light and how to bring these elements together to create magical, epic landscapes.

Planning for Landscape Photography

Landscape photography isn’t just about going to a great location and waiting for the sun to set. It’s imperative to get the planning right weeks or even months in advanced. Learn the secrets to planning for a shoot and give yourself the best chance possible before you even get there.

Location Scouting & Waterfalls

After the planning stage, Tom and the team arrive on location to scout out the areas. During the scouting, Tom comes across a waterfall and like a true pro, an opportunity like this doesn’t get wasted!

Lesson 6
Waterfall Edit

It’s not all about the planning and taking of landscape photography. They need to be finished off via editing techniques. Tom uses Adobe Lightroom to edit his pictures and in this lesson, he teaches you how. You also have the RAW files to work along with Tom if you wish.

Wast Water Shoot

In this lesson, we go to a remote location called Wast Water. Wast Water is a lake located in the western part of the Lake District National Park and is surrounded by epic mountains. Tom explains his ideas for the shoot, how he will use the light and compose his photography before taking photos of this epic scene.

Wast Water Edit

Here we are back in the studio looking through the photography taken at Wast Water. Via the images Tom recaps on the shoot then goes onto to edit some of the photography taken in Lightroom. You will also get the raw files to work along with Tom if you wish.

Lesson 9
Blea Tarn Shoot

In this lesson, we travel to Blea Tarn which is located in a hanging valley in the centre of the Lake District. On arrival, the weather’s not looking too great but Tom put’s his planning into action and as the clouds clear some epic photography is captured.

Blea Tarn Edit

Again, we are back in the studio looking through the pictures and Tom goes through his process of editing a panoramic image and a raw file from the drone. As with all the edits, you will get the raw files to follow along and learn with Tom.

Lesson 11
Buttermere Shoot

Buttermere is one of the more popular areas to photograph in this area. We arrive early morning and the conditions are great, perfectly still water while the sun rises over the mountains. Tom uses his unique techniques to chase the light and achieves several A grade pictures with a DSLR and a drone.

Buttermere Edit

Here we are back in the studio looking through the pictures and giving them those finishing touches in Lightroom. Again, you have the raw files to follow along and learn the process with Tom.

Lesson 13
Catbells Shoot

Catbells is a mountain peak in Cumbria, England. Not many photographers venture here due to 2-hour hike to get to the top. But that didn’t stop us! We hiked up for sunset and was presented with some challenging conditions for photography.

Lesson 14
Catbells Edit

In this lesson, we review the photography and discuss how the conditions dictated the look of them. Then Tom uses his editing skills to create some pretty epic scenery. As with the other lessons, you will have the raw files to follow along should you wish.

Lesson 15
The Business of Landscape Photography

This lesson is for those wanting to take their landscape photography to the next stage and monetise their passion. Tom shares the realities of being a landscape photographer and teaches you the different revenue streams you can use to make money. You’ll also be advised on how to promote yourself and get a larger following on social media.

About your Tutor

Tom is an award-winning freelance photographer based in London. He began his love for photography in his early 20s and has worked as a professional photographer since 2011. His style incorporates epic and dramatic landscapes, showing the scale and beauty of the world. Tom states “I really want to show off the magic of a scene and inspire people to get out and travel to that place”.

Tom has worked with many big brands from Panasonic to L’Oreal to Google. He also works for tourist boards such as My Switzerland, Tourism Ireland and Destination Canada to name but a few.

Tom’s journey in photography started at school where his interest in creative subjects such as Art and Graphic Design took hold. His career path took a turn and when he was 20, he joined the Police Force. After 3 years in the force, he realised that wasn’t for him and he left the police to travel the world. This is where a real passion for landscape and travel photography began. Tom recalls “I love to travel, and I loved to capture those moments and scenes so when I got back, I decided to make this my career” and he hasn’t looked back since.

  • This course is suited for intermediate photographers and Photoshop users. It is not suited for anyone who hasn’t used Photoshop before. In this case, take our Photoshop Course first.

  • No. Although Ps and Lr are used in this course, if you’re adept at using post processing software then you should be able to transfer the skills taught to any program. The raw files provided will open in any editing program that supports raw editing.

  • If you do want to use Adobe software, then it’s recommended that you use Lightroom Classic and Photoshop CC. Adobe doesn’t sell Ps as a standalone program anymore. Instead, they provide various types of plans which include it. The best one to buy is the ‘Photography Plan’ which includes Photoshop CC, Lightroom Classic, and Lightroom CC for a monthly fee.
